Playa de Meron
between Comillas and San Vicente de la Barquera
This evening we have neighbors
Spanish and German surfers, a chance to make
new friends and some good surf
at sunset.

As the night falls, we draw the curtains and make home.
The sea is our garden .
Then we smoke and listen to music,
les Nocturnes de Chopin played by Arthur Rubinstein,
the four last lieder of Strauss
sung by Elisabeth Schwarzkopf
and fall asleep to the sound of the waves.
Asleep the happiest man in the world.

  1. For me it takes strong nerve to hear the Nocturnes and her in these songs, and fall asleep the happiest man in the world, alone. Possibly 'though the sea really would serve as my companion.

This is of course an extravagantly beautiful presentation. (It is not my favourite among the pictures but) I enjoy how the vignetting in the 3rd-to-last frame suggests the windows of the van. I suppose this to be intended? In the final picture, here again is the difference between you and everyone else. Only for you would the damn fire blow in exactly the right direction at exactly the right moment of descending night. 5 letzte lieder.
